About us

It was 2002 when my father, António Trigo, a graduate in Forestry Engineering and eternal lover of nature and plant reproduction, decided to fulfill his dream by opening a garden center, Mestre Jardineiro, in the small town of Amarante, located in the district of Porto.

He traveled to various European countries to visit the biggest growers and brought a large collection of plants with him. In this way, he made a wide variety of plants from all over the world accessible to everyone – something that had always been his interest and intention.

Later, in September 2006, I joined the company bringing a fresher and more assertive contribution due to my degree in Landscape Architecture.

Constant contact with plants made my passion and enthusiasm grow more and more, leading me to import rare plants directly from other continents.

One of Mestre Jardineiro’s biggest curiosities is that in 2010 we were the first in the Iberian Peninsula to import camellias from China and in 2015 we were the first Portuguese garden to import orchids from California. Something that still makes the whole team very proud!

Over the years, the company has grown and kept pace with its customers’ needs, always keen to showcase the most beautiful varieties and the latest innovations on the market.

In January 2020, my husband, Francisco Fernandes, left his position as Country Manager at an international company to join Master Gardener and take the brand to new clients, new homes and new gardens!

This was one of his goals, as he wanted to contribute to the growth of the business and, above all, be closer to his family.

The last major milestone was the launch of the online store in October 2020, thus reinforcing the brand’s reputation over the last (almost) 20 years.

Today, we are much more aware of our purpose and how we want to impact people’s lives. Our mission is to provide moments of deep relaxation and connection with nature, allowing you to lead a lighter and happier life through the plants that come from our garden to different homes.

Above all, we genuinely believe that watching plants grow reflects an inexplicable daily magic, and this has been our mantra since 2002.
